One of the main inspirations for starting my research about renewable energy and its relation to democratization is an interview that I made with Jeremy Rifkin whom I met 2010 in Abu Dhabi (UAE).
Inspired by his theory of the next renewables/internet revolution, I started the organization Meezan.cc in Amman in 2011 to design and develop regionally appropriate, sustainable agriculture, water-saving and energy-production solutions.
This activity lead me later to start a PhD project entitled: “Does Renewable Energy Facilitate Democracy? Case Studies from the Middle East and North Africa”. Currently I am writing this thesis at the Technical University of Darmstadt. I will be writing about my thesis and the latest developments regarding renewable energy and new political developments surrounding the deployment of renewable energy and green solutions. Together with the Swiss project DFDU, that works on an intervention for Open and Free Knowledge with decentralized and independent digital infrastructures, we are combining my research on renewable energy with their efforts to build resilient for free knowledge
